Principal's Update

Dear Trottier Community,

I want to begin by thanking our students and staff for their hard work and flexibility during this week’s MCAS testing. As many of you know, we encountered some technical difficulties during our trials, but thanks to the resilience of our school team and the dedication of our district-wide technology department—who even came in over the weekend to troubleshoot—we were able to ensure a smooth and successful testing session. Our students approached the assessments with focus and seriousness, and I truly appreciate their efforts.

A big thank you also goes out to SOS and Matt Probst for hosting a fantastic Glow Up dance on Friday night. With over 230 students in attendance, it was a fun evening filled with energy and celebration.

Looking ahead, we have a short week with no school this Friday, and April break just around the corner. Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our students, staff, and school community.

Family and Caregiver Survey

Families and Caregivers,
We are conducting a survey to help us better understand family-school communication and collaboration and to understand your perspectives on education. The voices of family members and caregivers remain critical to our understanding of your and your child’s/children’s experience in our schools.
Your participation in this survey is voluntary, and the information we receive will be treated confidentially. We will not ask for your name or other personal identifying information. You can choose to answer or not answer any questions and are free to withdraw from further participation in this survey at any time.
This survey will take 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you in advance for your participation and honest perspectives.

Drop off and Pick up Track Side of the Building

Dear Trottier Community,
I’m reaching out to ask for your support in maintaining a safe and orderly environment during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, particularly on the track side of the building.

We’ve seen an increase in traffic volume in that area. As a reminder, when the lights on the van are flashing, all vehicles must stop and yield. This includes when the lift is in use or when students are entering or exiting the van. Do not pass the van while these lights are on or when students are on or off-boarding. In addition, please be courteous to our staff when they provide reminders about safety procedures.

We have received a number of reports about vehicles going around the van during these times, which presents a serious safety concern. We ask for your full cooperation in following these procedures—student safety is paramount and will always come before convenience. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Update from the Health Office

The ticks are back!!
Just a friendly reminder that we are once again in tick season. Ticks tend to crawl until forward progression is impeded, so it’s important to inspect kids after playing outdoors (and/or encourage your child to do so themselves), specifically in creases (groins, armpits, behind ears, etc), along hairlines, and along waistbands. Ticks typically have to be embedded for 24-48 hours in order to transmit lyme disease, so prompt removal is key (and it’s important to remove the whole tick, head included). Encouraging kids to wear bug spray and wear long sleeved shirts/pants when playing in woods or tall grasses can be helpful in prevention. Outdoor play is wonderful for all ages, so rather than discourage them from doing so, let’s provide them with helpful tips to minimize tick-borne illnesses, and get them off electronics! Happy Spring!!!

Autism Acceptance Month

The Autism Society of America, the United States’ oldest leading grassroots autism organization, is celebrating Autism Acceptance Month (AAM) in April 2023. Autism is a developmental disorder that affects 1 in 59 Americans as of 2020. In 1970, the organization launched an ongoing national effort to promote autism awareness and to assure that all autistic people are able to achieve the highest quality of life possible. The first annual National Autistic Children’s week commenced in 1972, which evolved into AAM.

So why the shift from Autism Awareness Month to Autism Acceptance Month? Christopher Banks, President and CEO of the Autism Society of America, puts it like this: “While we will always work to spread awareness, words matter as we strive for autistic individuals to live fully in all areas of life. As many individuals and families affected by autism know, acceptance is often one of the biggest barriers to finding and developing a strong support system.” The shift in terminology fosters acceptance to ignite change through improved support and opportunities in education, employment, accessible housing, affordable health care, and comprehensive long-term services.

National Arab American Heritage Month

National Arab American Heritage Month has been observed during the month of April since 2017. It honors the contributions of Arab Americans and celebrates the heritage and culture of Arab America. Immigrants with origins from the Arab world have been arriving in the United States since before our country’s independence and have contributed to our nation’s advancements ever since.
