Principal's Update

I want to take a moment to recognize and thank SOS for their wonderful support of our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. They provided us with breakfast, lunch, gift cards, and kind notes throughout the week. These gestures go a long way—especially during this final stretch of the school year. I can’t thank SOS and this community enough for their continued generosity and support.

I’d also like to recognize Mr. Clark and the Trottier Big Band, who received Gold Recognition at the MAJE Festival this past week. This is quite an accomplishment and a testament to Mr. Clark and the ensemble’s ongoing hard work, commitment, and musicianship. Congratulations!

Next week, we will have MCAS testing for all three grades on Wednesday, May 14, and Friday, May 16. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest, arrives on time, and brings a fully charged Chromebook. If a student misses an MCAS session, we will offer makeups the following day.

Lastly, we hope you’ll join us in supporting our drama program’s production of Peter Pan Jr. There will be two showings: Friday evening at 7:00 PM and Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM. It’s going to be a fantastic performance and a wonderful community event!

District Student Student Survey

Trottier:
I want to thank you for completing the Trottier school culture survey. The district would like your feedback as well.

Middle and high school students,
We are conducting a survey to help us better understand the student learning experience and how teachers, leaders, and staff are supporting your growth and development. The voices of students are critical to our understanding so that we can do everything we can to support you in reaching your full potential while at school and preparing you to reach your life’s ambitions after graduation.

Your participation in this survey is voluntary, and the information we receive will be treated confidentially. We will not ask for your name or other personal identifying information. You can choose to answer or not answer any questions and are free to withdraw from further participation in this survey at any time.

This survey will take 5-8 minutes to complete.

Thank you in advance for your participation and honest perspectives.

Crepe Day

You're Invited: Crepe Day is Back!

Calling all Trottier students. The World Language Department is excited to announce that Crepe Day is returning on Thursday, May 15th. Join us for a fun-filled after-school event featuring delicious crepes made by Paris Creperie of Brookline.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 15th, from 2:15 pm until the late bus departs. The cost is $15 per student, and you can enjoy crepes with strawberries, bananas, Nutella, and lotus cookie butter spread.

To purchase your ticket, visit the Trottier Website, go to the Online Payment Center, select Southborough - Trottier - Crepe Day, and make your payment by May 13th at 11:59 pm. Please note that no purchases will be accepted after May 13th, and cash payments are not accepted.

Students must be picked up at 3:30 pm or board the late bus. The event will feature music, door prizes, trivia, and hands-on activities, making it a fun experience for all.

If you have any questions, you can visit Madame Okacha or Mr. Drake's room for more information. All Trottier students are welcome to attend. Don't miss out on the fun.

Chromebook Tik Tok Trend

Dear Families,

I’m reaching out to inform you about a dangerous social media trend known as the “Chromebook Spark Challenge,” currently circulating on TikTok. This challenge encourages students to insert objects like pencil lead or paperclips into Chromebook ports to cause sparking and smoke. Alarmingly, we’ve recently seen signs that this behavior is emerging within our school.

Thankfully, no serious injuries or damage have occurred yet, but we believe it’s critical to work together now to prevent harm. Please talk with your child about the dangers of these online challenges and the importance of responsible technology use. If they see this behavior happening, they should report it to a trusted adult right away.

Participating in or encouraging this kind of behavior is not only dangerous but will also lead to serious disciplinary consequences. Our staff is aware of this issue and has been advised on how to respond quickly and safely.

If you encounter this at home:
  • Call 911 immediately—lithium battery fires are highly dangerous.
  • Do not touch the device—it could cause burns or electrical shock.
  • Evacuate the area to avoid inhaling toxic fumes.

We appreciate your partnership in keeping our students and community safe. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

8th Grade SBIRT Screener

8th Grade SBIRT Screener

Dear Parent or Guardian of 8th-grade students,

We are writing to share information regarding one component of our school plans to address substance use prevention in our students. There are several pieces to this work, and we would like to take this opportunity to share information and ways that families can participate and/or opt their child out of one of these programs. As a school community, we believe that it is important for students to learn about making healthy choices regarding drug and alcohol use and to understand the potential risks of substance use during adolescence. This year, we will be continuing our work to ensure all students receive support in order to become healthy and balanced learners and to make good choices about their health and well-being.

All Massachusetts public schools are required to include a verbal substance use screening as part of their yearly mandated universal health-screening programs. Our district uses the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) protocol with students in Grade 8. Students will individually be asked several questions about their substance use by a trained professional. The purpose of this effort is to educate and prevent, or at least delay, alcohol, marijuana, nicotine, or other drug use. The SBIRT program reinforces healthy decisions and addresses concerns about substance use with the goal of improving health, safety, and success in school. Students who are not using substances will have their healthy choices reinforced. When any student reports using alcohol or other drugs or seems at risk for future substance use, the screener will ask follow-up questions, provide feedback, and have a brief conversation with that student. Most screening sessions last approximately 5-15 minutes, and students are able to decline or end participation at any time.

What your child tells the screener is confidential and will not be shared with any other person without prior written consent of the student, parent, or guardian, except in cases of immediate medical emergency or when disclosure is otherwise required by state law. No written record of the results of this verbal screening is kept with information that identifies any individual student. Trottier staff will conduct the screener the week of May 27th. Screening results will not be put with any other information that identifies any child and will not be included in your child’s school record, per MA state law. If you want to opt your child out of the screening, please complete this SBIRT opt-out form. Your child may also opt out at the time of the screening. Together, schools and families CAN make a difference for the youth in our community. One way to prevent youth alcohol and other drug use is to talk with your child about your thoughts and expectations about alcohol and drug use. You can view the screening tool and other SBIRT resources in a variety of languages at www.masbirt.org/schools

Monthly Recognitions

American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

During the month of May, the Northborough-Southborough Schools will be recognizing Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The month of May is significant as it recognizes the immigration of Japanese people to the United States in 1843. Chinese workers played a prominent role in the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869.

As a district, we celebrate and honor the impact that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have had on our society, culture, and history.

National Jewish American Heritage Month is a month-long celebration in May that recognizes the contributions of Jewish Americans to American culture, history, and society. It was first proclaimed by President George W. Bush in 2006 and has since been recognized annually. The month-long observance includes various cultural events, exhibits, and activities across the United States.
