MASS DOT Snow Plow Contest

Principal's Update

Dear Trottier Community,

I want to take a moment to recognize our incredible facilities crew, who worked countless hours over Monday and Tuesday to ensure our school was ready to welcome students back. The two unexpected days off were certainly a surprise, but their hard work and dedication allowed us to be fully prepared for Wednesday. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to our school.

In addition, we were thrilled to welcome a special visit from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation this week. MassDOT stopped by to present one of their newly named snowplows—Clear-o-pathra—submitted by one of our eighth-grade students Abhaya Visak as part of the statewide naming contest. This contest has been running for the past four years, with twelve plows named annually across the state. The visit turned out to be a bigger event than we anticipated, and it was a wonderful surprise for our students. MassDOT staff were fantastic, allowing students to climb into the truck, honk the horn, and learn more about their work. It truly made for a memorable Thursday.

Thank you to Mrs. Leone and Abaya for helping organize this event and supporting the student recognition—it was a great moment for our school community.

Looking ahead, parent-teacher conferences will take place on Thursday from 12:30–2:30 p.m. and 5:30–7:30 p.m. If you were unable to secure a conference time and have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to your child’s teacher.

Let's make it a great one!

MCAS Save the Dates

Dear Families,
I am writing to share a preview of our MCAS testing dates for this spring so you can plan accordingly.

MCAS participation is important for all students, and we know that spring can be a busy time for families. Our goal is to provide these dates well in advance to support family planning and student readiness.

MCAS Testing Schedule
  • ELA: April 8–9
  • Make-up testing will continue as needed through April 17 to ensure every student completes testing.
  • Math: May 11 and May 13
  • Science Grade 8 Only : May 18 and May 19
  • The Math and Science testing window closes on May 22.
  • Grade 8 Only Civics: May 27 and May 28

Please make every effort to avoid scheduling appointments or taking time off during these testing windows. More detailed information will be shared as we get closer to each testing session.

Chromebook Expectations

Dear Trottier Families,

At this time, we have a limited reserve of backup Chromebooks. These loaner devices are intended specifically for students whose assigned Chromebooks are temporarily unavailable due to repair.

We are currently meeting with students who routinely arrive at school without their Chromebooks to reinforce expectations around daily preparedness. Going forward, students whose Chromebooks are being repaired will be given priority access to loaner devices. If a student arrives at school without their Chromebook and it is not due to a repair issue, they may need to adjust their learning activities throughout the day.

We ask for your support in helping your child develop the habit of bringing their Chromebook to school each day, as this is essential to being prepared to learn.

Thank you,

Gary Hreschuk

A Message from the Health Office

There has been a recent surge in flu cases (particularly flu A) in the Trottier community, especially among the 6th grade. Please see the doc below for further information. In addition, please notify the school nurse for any confirmed communicable illnesses and reach out with any questions/concerns.

Arrival Time and Absences

Dear Families,

As we begin the second semester, we want to share a few important reminders related to attendance and arrival time.

Student Absences
If your child is absent, please be sure to notify the school as soon as possible. You may do so by calling or emailing our attendance line:

Morning Arrival & Tardiness
We are seeing an increase in students arriving late to school. We are asking families to do their best to ensure students arrive by 7:40 a.m.
When students arrive late, they miss morning announcements and important information and learning that occurs at the start of first period. This disrupts their learning and makes it harder for them to start the day in a calm, focused way.
We appreciate your support in helping students build strong habits around punctuality and attendance as we begin the new semester.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
