Principal's Update

Dear Trottier :

In this update, I want to take a moment to simply acknowledge and thank our Trottier teachers and staff for the incredible hard work and energy they bring to our school each day. One of the most important parts of the middle school experience is having fun, building social connections, creating outlets for expression, and allowing students to be creative. You’ll see several examples below of how our staff has gone above and beyond to promote a positive school climate and culture.

If you have a moment, I encourage you to reach out to a staff member and thank them for their efforts.

Geography Bee

A big thank you to Mr. Winston and Mr. St. Pierre for hosting Geography Bee this year. This long-standing tradition, run through social studies classes, gives students a chance to shine in a fun and competitive format. As always, I was impressed by our students’ knowledge, preparation, and enthusiasm.

Koalagram Delivries

Our eighth graders helped spread kindness and joy throughout the building by delivering Valentine’s Day grams, complete with festive outfits and music. Hearing Smooth Operator echo through the halls was a welcome surprise! Many thanks to Mrs. Langway and Mrs. Scorzelli for leading this initiative for the benefit of our students.

Underground Spirit Week

Thank you as well to the staff who participated in our underground Spirit Week. While students were kept in the dark, the creativity was on full display—Monochrome Monday, Mix-Match Shoes Tuesday, Drink-Out-of-Anything-But-a-Cup Wednesday, and Lazy Thursday. It was all in good fun, and the confused (and mildly frustrated) reactions from students made it even better.

Neary Visit 7th Grade ELA

I also want to recognize our seventh-grade ELA teachers—Mrs. Penzone, Mrs. Maurice, and Ms. Grimley—who brought over 30 students to Neary to read their original stories based on A Long Walk to Water. These visits are powerful opportunities for students to reconnect with former teachers and to showcase their growth and maturity. Strengthening the connection between our schools is always important, and this was a wonderful example of that collaboration.

RAM JAM

Lastly, thank you to all the teachers and students who participated in our inaugural Ram Jam—a community event, pep rally, and friendly competition rolled into one. It was energizing to come together in the gym, and impressively, no teachers were injured in the process. Congratulations to our champions, the eighth grade, who took home the (very underwhelming) Ram Head trophy!

Community Conversation 2/24-2/26

Dear Trottier:

During the week of February 23, Trottier Middle School will be holding our second round of Community Conversations with students. These conversations are an important part of how we build and sustain a school culture grounded in respect, inclusion, and belonging.

The theme of this upcoming Community Conversation will be Intended vs. Impact. At Trottier, we believe it is essential to set clear expectations for students and to regularly reflect together on what an inclusive environment looks like and feels like. As students continue to navigate increasingly complex social dynamics, these conversations provide an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reset as a community.

During these sessions, students will engage in guided discussions and age-appropriate scenarios that explore how language, ideas, attitudes, and choices can impact others—sometimes in unintended ways. We will work with students to deepen their understanding of how words or actions they may perceive as “jokes” can affect peers, and we will discuss strategies for navigating social situations thoughtfully and responsibly.

Community Conversations are a key part of our school culture. They allow us to reinforce shared values, remind students of our expectations, and highlight the important role each student plays in creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for all members of the Trottier community. We appreciate your partnership in this work.

Sincerely,

Gary M. Hreschuk
