Karen Kirsten Presents to 7th Grade

Share important updates

Dear Trottier Families,

I wanted to take a moment to recognize how busy things have been here over the past few weeks. We are currently in scheduling season, and teachers will be making course recommendations soon. Additional information about course selection for next year will be shared shortly. When that process begins, it will be important to adhere to the outlined timelines.

Before April break, our seventh-grade students had the meaningful opportunity to hear from Karen Kirsten, who shared her family’s story as a second-generation Holocaust survivor. Our students responded thoughtfully and respectfully, and the experience was powerful for all involved.
In addition, our sixth-grade ELA team welcomed families into the building for the Solution Symposium connected to the novel The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. Events like this are valuable extensions of our curriculum, helping to deepen student learning and strengthen connections between school and home. These opportunities are made possible through the hard work and dedication of our staff, and we are grateful for their efforts.

Looking ahead, we have several important events coming up. District Cultural Night will take place on Friday evening, and Math MCAS is scheduled for the week of May 11. There is a lot happening, and we appreciate our students’ attendance, effort, and active participation in all that we offer here at Trottier.

6th and 7th Grade ELA Workshop Recommendations

Dear Trottier families:

We are beginning the course selection process for the upcoming school year. As part of this process, your child may be recommended for either the ELA Workshop or the World Language (French or Spanish) as part of their seventh-grade or eighth-grade schedule.   If your child is recommended for the ELA workshop, you will receive an email from your child’s ELA teacher the week of April 27th with the opportunity to discuss the recommendation.

The ELA Workshop in seventh and eighth grades is an additional English class designed to provide targeted support in reading and writing. Recommendations for this class are based on a combination of data used by the team, including MCAS scores, classroom performance throughout the year, and results from the DIBELS screener—a nationally recognized tool that helps us assess key components of reading, such as fluency, accuracy, and comprehension.

In the seventh and eighth grade ELA Workshops, students will have the opportunity to hone their reading and writing skills through a multimodal approach, which may include small group instruction, explicit intervention work, and skill-building activities tailored to individual needs. Our goal is to provide students with the best support possible to help them grow as confident, capable readers and writers.

When a child is enrolled in the ELA Workshop, this course takes the place of World Language in their schedule. However, please know that if your child makes strong progress and is not recommended for the ELA Workshop at the end of seventh grade, they may have the opportunity to begin a world language in eighth grade.

In PowerSchool, please select the course your child was recommended for by Thursday, May 7th. If you choose to override this recommendation, please reach out to your child’s guidance counselor for an override form. After the school receives the override form, we will update the course selection in PowerSchool (after May 7th). If you have any questions, please contact your child’s ELA teacher to help make an informed decision. Our team is committed to supporting students and ensuring they are placed in the courses that best meet their academic needs.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Respectfully,
Gary M. Hreschuk

Art Show

The Art Studio Art Show will run May 20 to June 5. It will be displayed in our main lobby at Trottier. Please take some time to view some of our students' wonderful work.

Go the Distance Awards

Northborough/Southborough Special Education Parents Advisory Council (NSPAC) hosts the Go the Distance Awards annually to recognize individuals who have made a positive impact on students on an IEP or 504 plan throughout the current academic year. This person can be a bus driver, teacher, cafeteria worker, paraprofessional, support staff member, another student, or community employee (such as a coach, dance teacher, or librarian). Receiving an award is a meaningful experience for nominees.

Please consider nominating a special person in your student’s life!
